From an “. . . auctioneer of fine art, to a gun peddler,” are words you’ll hear Sig Shore exclaim from time to time. Shore Galleries traces it’s roots and mission back to 1956, when Sig Shore’s vision took the growing business in it’s new direction. From that inspiration grew an unlikely business in a unique niche, unknown to even the owner at the time.
That pretty much sums up the unlikely turn of events that would transform Shore Galleries from the auction house (specializing in fine art and antiques) to the law enforcement and civilian supply store that it is now.
Called upon to handle the disposition of an estate which contained several antique firearms, Sig Shore was surprised by the number of people that turned out and the interest that was generated by the guns. The business is run by his nephew Steve. After years as a sporting goods dealer, an importer of reproduction antique firearms, and an importer of military surplus firearms and ammunition,
Shore Galleries seems to have found its niche as a distributor. Handling brand lines such as; Bianchi, Safariland, Streamlight, Springfield, Ruger, Beretta, Glock, Kahr Arms, Fiocchi, Sig Sauer and Walther to name just a few of the lines that Shore Galleries handles. The list continues to grow.
Shore Galleries is optimistic as it enters its 60th year, meeting the needs of the Illinois law enforcement community and parts of the Midwest. With a successful retail business, Shore Galleries is poised to meet the needs of the 21'st century police department, officer, and shooting enthusiast alike.
